An Introduction to Practices for the Phoenix Acolyte

Life is a blessing from the Phoenix. When our time is over, it is our duty to return to her the light we have borrowed, so new life can be created.

It is important to keep in mind when dealing with the bereaved to maintain grace and warmth during what is likely a very trying time. Offer words of kindness as you accept the body, and assure the family that you will care for their loved one as if they were your own.

Start preparation of the body by cleansing it gently with a damp cloth. Then place a coin over the eyes as an offering. Finally, wrap the body in silk.

The body is now ready to be placed into the Pyroflow. Let it burn, preferably throughout the night, until only ashes remain. Attendees may want to say a few words about the departed. If desired, ashes can be put into vessels and distributed amongst mourners. Remember, death is not the end.
