While I am not particularly fond of idle revelry, as your Shepp, it is my duty to inform you of the Majiri tradition of Winterlights. My father was not much for celebration, so I usually take this time as an opportunity for quiet reflection and to spend time with my sister, but this year I have an additional family member to consider...you. Perhaps as you learn to appreciate Winterlights, I will as well. Who knows? During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. So I share with you the recipe to make candles. Choose wisely who you share these with, for nothing is as precious as time and nothing is as tragic as time wasted. Postscript - Jina informed me that humans liked to decorate trees this time of year for a celebration known as Frostide. I thought this was a wonderful opportunity for us both to engage in an academic exercise. How can we create a celebration that is equal parts old and new? Perhaps you can think on this as you distribute your candles.
