It is with great joy that I reach out to you about this year's Winterlights celebration. It is my duty, not only as your Shepp, but as the spiritual leader of the community to let you know what this time of year means to us. During the ancient Majiri times, it was said the stars hid in winter, until a young girl lit a candle and prayed to Maji, who made the stars shine year-round. Whether or not you believe this to be true or merely a metaphor for how companionship can bring light in the darkness, Winterlights has remained a time where we share good food, stories... and candles with those we hold close. In honor of this tradition, I give you the recipe to make candles. PS - Jina shared with me that Humans would often decorate a tree this time of year for a festival they called Frostide. I thought it might be a good opportunity to combine traditions. I have informed the villagers that if a Human gives them a candle, they should offer a tree decoration in exchange. Who knows? Perhaps this could become a new cherished tradition.
